IX. Memorial Nereo Butković

Nereo Butković
Nereo was the president and secretary of ŠK Pula for many years. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Croatian Chess Federation for several terms. In addition to all administrative tasks in the club, he also held the role of coach, and taught many of today’s club players to play chess. He was also active in school sports, and was the first in Istria County to launch the “Chess in Schools” project.
In addition to the playing title of master candidate (MK), he also had the title of state chess referee.
He is the first president of the Chess Association of the Istrian County, and is responsible for the establishment of several new clubs in the Istrian County.
Open chess tournament
The memorial will be played on Mondays and Fridays from 6 p.m. in the club’s premises, at 20 Radićeva street, in Pula. The first round is scheduled for Monday, January 30, 2023 at 6 p.m.
The tournament will be played according to the Swiss system, FIDE variant in 9 rounds, and pairing is done using the Swiss Manager. Time control is 90 minutes per player for the entire game plus 30 seconds of bonus for each move played, starting with the first move.
Right to participate
All domestic and foreign chess players who have a FIDE ID number, regardless of title and category, have the right to participate. The number of participants is limited to 35 participants.
The tournament was registered with FIDE for the calculation of the FIDE rating for standard chess and with the HŠS for the calculation of the national rating.
Prize fund
The prize fund amounts to €330 (€100, €70, €50, €30 and €20) net and will be awarded to the 5 most successful overall and €20 to the best cadet, junior and veteran over 65 years old.

The registration fee is €8. Players under the age of 20 pay a registration fee of €5.
